Elizabeth & Scott - 26th June 2010

Elizabeth and Scott tied the knot in Elizabeth's home town of Bathgate. 

A traditional church wedding followed by a modern reception at the Hillcroft hotel in Whitburn.

Elizabeth's flowers were not our usual natural style, instead Liz requested a super modern statement bouquet to show her traditional day what an edgy lady she is!

At the ceremony we kept it low key and adorned church pews with cute glass jars filled with beautiful blooms and secured with classic white ribbon.

In contrast tables at the reception venue were decorated with space age silver twigs, wire and pods of purple blooms. Elizabeth definitely made a statement with her purple decor!

Kirsty & Louis - 12th June 2010

Kirsty and Louis celebrated their wedding at a Scottish Castle steeped in history. 

Culcreuch Castle is set in picturesque countryside and smooth rolling hills.

With the beautifully manicured lawns leading down to a small loch, the setting of the day was one of romance.

Kirsty's flowers were classic with a twist of the contemporary and splash of Scotland with thistles, roses and some lovely scented herbs.

Overtoun Park in Bloom

One of our local and most favourite parks is in bloom.... and it is beautiful!!!

Spring is certainly springing!!

We made our way to the park with our camera in hand and simply enjoyed the day....

2CV restoration - the rear window

It might sound like a Hitchcock thriller............. but there is no mystery, it is a hole in the body work!

Hmmm.... looking at this now the hole doesn't look half bad.... but once the dust was dusted away... oh dear!

So we called upon our very talented in-house mechanic and welder...

and yes ladies, he is single!

For the blog of a floristry site some of you may find the following images a little.... boring? but we love to get our hands dirty and try to make old stuff work... it is all about reusing and recycling isn't it!

Mark out the bits to chop

Cut it so it curves and is more flexible

Weld it on

Perfecto!

The next hole.....erm...... that's quite nasty!

Our love for this girl is packed right down to our fingertips... so we will keep at it!

Say No To Plastics - Vintage & Craft Fair @ Oran Mor

What fun was had this weekend creating a summer tree centre piece to support the cause of 'Say No To Plastic' at their recent Vintage & Craft fair :) Little Botanica is very much in support of reduce, reuse and recycle and could not miss opportunity to support the cause! 

 Organisers Heather and Lisa are just fabulous and put in such hard work and commitment to make the day run perfectly. Check out www.saynotoplastic.co.uk for details of other events, supported charities and to sign their petition in support of a complete ban on the use of non recyclable plastic bags.

Little Botanica created a Green Summer Tree full of interesting blooms. It was placed at the entrance of the fair to welcome everyone and give the style of the event a natural twist.

 

Creating our tree was a tricky job and our fondly named 'flower kebabs' were quite heavy so had to be positioned in just the right place to balance the whole thing!

 

You can just see the amazing interior of Oran Mor in the background. The restoration to this old church is stunning :)

We also had a wee stall at the fair where we decided to share some of our old favourites - vintage glassware and crockery. We made up some special little flower creations too... reusing old jars and scraps of material or ribbon. They had little handles made out of string and a very pretty little blooms in each. Easy to carry home and ready to be placed anywhere that needed a little bit of love :)

It was a brilliant day and we met lots of lovely crafty people... we will get some links up soon!

The nights are getting lighter and the days are getting little warmer (sometimes!) it must be wedding season!

We very much enjoyed the stunning simplicity of the bouquets for todays wedding.

 

The gorgeous calla lilies looked so elegant and perfectly natural grouped together.

The brides bouquet had a wee touch of deep purple to ensure she stood out

We hope a beautiful day was had by all

2CV restoration - the beginning

2CVs are one of Little Botanica's most favourite things :)

Our poor wee friend has been sleeping in the garage for quite some time now. We got her as a most amazing and generous gift a few years ago and unfortunately our enthusiastic and immediate plans had to be put on hold........ however.......

We have recently restarted the mission! The journey of restoring our beauty with the hope that she will be super shiny and happy.... and maybe she will even run on something a little bit cleaner and more interesting like LPG or hydrogen?? Ideas welcome :)

But oh my! what work has to be done!

When she arrived the poor wee thing was covered in stickers..... we felt that this hid her natural beauty.... so we set to work removing every last one!

Then we stripped her back to get to the heart of the problem...... problems....... a lot of them!

We removed all the panels, including the wings.......

and then we made a start to our to do list..... diagnosing all the essentials

1. The holes in the body work - rear quarter window, rear seat belt & back corner.

2. The rust - could be worse but the bad bits are bad.

3. The dents and bits we can't fix - need 2 or 3 new doors and 2 new front wings.

4. The electrics - not pretty, probably need new loom.

5. The engine - clean and replace necessary bits to get her running.

Then we stopped for some tea and cake and had a good chat about all the fun tasks that would need doing after we get her back on the road :)
