LB in LA (part 2)

Our trip to LA wasn't all work; we did manage to pack in a fair bit to our flying visit...

The Flower District

Okay, okay so it's still sort of work related but LA has a whole flower district; six blocks consisting of 200 wholesale dealers; it was just too good not to check out!

The markets are open to trade early in the morning then from 8am until 2pm they open their doors to the public for the pricely sum of $1 entrance fee. Fresh cut flowers wrapped in newspaper, an abundance of potted plants, succulents, sundries and everything floristry related is available (including a moss covered stetson, because - well who knows!) The rose varieties were staggering; sourced from every corner of the globe (Canary Islands, Chile, Kenya, India and South Africa) Carpe Diem, Cherry O! and Blueberry were some of my personal favourites.  Buckets and buckets of beautiful foliage, tray upon trap of succulents and trollies piled high. With a smattering of trendy little cafes it's clearly the place to go on a sunny weekend morning (it's just a shame about the 11hr flight and excess baggage)

Best Scottish Wedding Magazine - Autumn

We have some lovely flowers pictured in the latest edition of The Best Scottish Weddings magazine... here is a sneaky look at our flowers... but don't forget to pick up your copy for lots of inspiration!

 

Our interesting bouquet this time was a bit of a wild card... as it is not our usual soft style... but still keeping it nice and natural by being true to the shape of the flowers. Inspired by the bright flowers at the market we created a bold handtie of Hydrangea, Celosia, Rice flower, Green Goddess Roses and little button Crysants.... finished off with a cute piece of vintage fabric.

We were asked to submit a table centre which used roses.... we absolutely love roses!!

So we went straight to our favourite British grower to get some of our favourite scented roses.

If only you could smell them... they are so delicious!!

We used a circular wooden container (which we have salvaged of course!) filled it with seasonal foliage and gorgeous natural greenery... then added our delightful roses....

Beautiful!

Next we have a perfectly presented corsage... made by our friend Katherine from Wishing Well Flowers New Zealand!

Katherine used lovely natural greenery including moss, fountain grass and contorta.... berries, button Crysants and Paua shell that she brought from home :)

We absolutely love Katherine's style..... can't wait to have her back with us next year!

This edition of The Best Scottish Wedding Magazine will be available at the Scottish Wedding Show at the SECC on the 17th & 18th September..... We will be there too! Stand 407C... visit us!!

Little Botanica & Sparrow and Rose

I met Lisa from Sparrow & Rose at the Scottish Wedding Show in February... we got chatting when I popped by her stand and we have been chatting since!

I got the opportunity to work with Lisa on a particularly busy weekend of hers in June.

Her studio in The Hidden Lane is a bright pretty wee room and looked amazing jam packed with flowers!

It was my job to deliver and set up two of Lisa's weddings and at one I got to create an archway!

The outdoor ceremony at Kirknewton Stables was held under the beautiful sprawling branches of cherry blossom trees.... I used the natural flow of the trees as inspiration to create a wild and natural archway.

 

The aisle looked beautiful with little charms and ornaments hanging from the branches.

 

Lisa had created gorgeous posies to be placed in vintage tea pots and sugar bowls on the dinner tables and outside in old milk jugs and watering cans.

The venue was very pretty and Lisa's flowers complimented it perfectly.

 

 

 

The second wedding was at Roman Camp in Callander, preceded by the ceremony held at the very picturesque Trossachs church 

 Lisa's beautiful candelabra were taken to the reception venue following the ceremony and placed on the dinner tables with some vintage crockery and silverware.
